Rooted yet Rhizomatic
The name “YARD” — pronounced “yaad” — is an homage to the Jamaican patois word meaning “home” or, more literally, the land surrounding your home. The idea of “yard” for expats is one of rich nostalgia — real and imagined — encompassing visual, olfactory, auditory, and gustatory memory. Abstracted, “Yard” is the anchor of selfhood that keeps one grounded while freely exploring uncharted territory.
YARD was founded by Tiana Webb Evans, a writer, curator, and cultural producer whose decades of participation in the mainstream and margins of art, design, and culture culminates here to create a tertium quid. This “third thing” investigates unseen connections and stories between ideas and objects that seem disparate to the uninitiated. As we grow, the overarching story unfolds. We encourage you to stay the course.
